Right on the heels of the CHL Import Draft (in which they selected Czech defenceman Jan Bittner) the Red Deer Rebels released their schedule for the 2012-2013 Western Hockey League season.
Training camp will commence on Sunday, August 26th at the Enmax Centrium with the annual McDonald's Black / White intrasquad game taking place Wednesday the 29th at 7pm.
The Rebels will play in six preseason games in September. The first two will take place in St. Albert on September 1st vs. Prince George and Sept. 2nd vs. Edmonton. Then the Rebels will visit the Calgary Hitmen at the Winsport Centre (new home of Hockey Canada at Canada Olympic Park) before their annual tour through Central Alberta. They will take on Lethbridge in Innisfail on Saturday, September 8th, Edmonton in Lacombe on Friday the 14th and Medicine Hat in Stettler on the 15th.
After opening their regular season versus Edmonton for the past couple of years, the Rebels go back to battling another familiar rival for their 2012-13 lid lifter. The Calgary Hitmen will visit the Enmax Centrium on Friday, September 21st (last year they didn't play the Rebels in Red Deer until Jan. 17th).
The Rebels will play another home game on Friday, September 28th vs. Medicine Hat before heading out on a rather long six game eastern road trip to start October (In order - Prince Albert, Saskatoon, Regina, Brandon, Moose Jaw, Swift Current). The road trip was scheduled early on in the season to give construction crews they time they (may still) need to finish off the suites and suites expansion project at the Enmax Centrium without having to take time off for Rebels games (they will make exceptions for the first two home games).
As per usual, the Rebels will also go on an extended road trip in November to accomodate AgriTrade here in Red Deer. This trip will include a three game dip into the United States (Spokane, Tri-City, Portland). The Thunderbirds were unable to secure their building during this road trip so the Rebels will be visiting them in February instead.
The Rebels will not be visiting Vancouver for the first time since the Giants entered the WHL (they come to Red Deer in January). They will also not be visiting Victoria this season as the Royals will instead visit the Rebels for games in December and February.
Friday games - 23 (14 home)
Saturday games - 18 (10)
Sunday games - 9 (2)
Monday games - 0
Tuesday games - 10 (5)
Wednesday games - 9 (2)
Thursday games - 3 (2)
The Rebels schedule will be available for download through their website at a later date.
