Draft Day Dawns For Rebels

[  NOTE - Diving into any sort of draft analysis is a new thing for this particular reporter so do bear with me and feel free to add some input of your own :)  ]

The 2012 WHL Bantam Draft takes place tomorrow (Thursday).

After the Draft Lottery took place shortly after the end of the regular season, I received a pair of interesting tweets (@Troy_Gillard) from one of my hockey followers...

"Do you think the scouting staff can get it right this time? Haven't much success in the draft recently."

"Scouting staff needs to do a better job following the easy rd 1 & 2 picks."

I couldn't really think of a reply as I first wanted to take a look back at the Red Deer Rebels recent history when it comes to the bantam draft. So let's take a quick look at the players from the 2011-12 Rebels who were acquired through the bantam draft (listed in order of draft year starting with most recent)...

Conner Bleackley F (2011 1st round, 21st overall) - played 16 games and had two goals
Haydn Fleury D (2011 2nd round, 43rd overall) - played 4 games and had a +1 rating

Justin Weller D (2006 2nd round, 24th overall) - 39 games, 8 points

Let's put some of these players/selections into different categories (these are just a few, not all)...

"BEST BANG FOR YOUR BUCK" --> Kambeitz, Robinson, Hamilton, Maxwell

"AS ADVERTISED" --> Dumba, Millette, Petrovic (could also go under the first category), Weller, Doetzel,

"JURY'S STILL OUT" --> Bleackley, Fleury, Doetzel, Pochuk, Feser

"DIDN'T WORK OUT" --> Siwak, Grayson, Deagle

For Rebels fans who no doubt have some opinions on Rebels bantam draft picks from the recent past (and on what they should do tomorrow) I'd love to hear your thoughts.  Post a comment on here or hit me up on Twitter!

They definately need a goal scorer, they can trade for defense.
