Winter Winds, But No Trade Winds

As was widely expected, the Red Deer Rebels were not active on WHL Trade Deadline day. Here are a few quotes from GM and Head Coach Jesse Wallin shortly after the 3pm cut-off...

"It was a busy couple of days but ultimately there was nothing we were able to get done. We talked to every team in the league at some point. But there has to be two willing participants and we just weren't able to get anything done."

"We looked at improving our team, something for this year but also help us down the road as well... listened to different offers... wasn't anything significant enough for us either way."

On Justin Weller's potentially season ending broken wrist "It was definitely a factor in our thinking for sure"

"We feel that we are a playoff calibre team. It's gonna be a challenge but it's a challenge I think this group can take on."

Not really earth shattering stuff by any means. Seeing the Rebels stand pat today should come as no surprise. They already made their impact moves with the acquisitions of Dubyk and Inglis. Simply put, the Rebels coaching staff feels that this group, when healthy and playing to its full potential, is capable of making the playoffs and then making noise once they get there... we shall all find out together.

would have been nice to pick up a goal scorer, as it gets tougher Rebels going to find it tough to get goals in the close games
