Big Day For Coetzee

It's been a whirlwind few months for Rebels Forward Willie Coetzee. In June, the 19 year-old watched disappointed as he was passed over in the NHL entry draft.

Soon after the draft had ended, the bad feelings soon came to an end as Coetzee got a call, and quickly accepted an invite to Detroit Red Wings rookie camp.

After an impressive prospects tournament, Coetzee was off to main camp, along with Rebels teammate Landon Ferraro.

How did he fare? Well after today, the answer is pretty obvious. The undrafted product of Maple Ridge B.C. is the proud owner of a brand new three year entry level NHL contract.

Coetzee has certainly come a long ways in a short time. From a 25-game 2 goal performance as a 17 year-old, to last years revealing breakout of 18 goals and 42 points. After a terrific Rebels training camp, a hat trick in the black and white game, and his pro camp experience, it wouldn't be beyond reason to see Coetzee have a 35-35-70 season playing on the Rebels top line.

Congrats Bill. You deserve it. Here's hoping for a big season.
