They must see something in Deagle that I don't, but he has sure looked soft in the games he was in last season, and training camp this year. Maybe we are yet to see a trade?
possibly.
i dont know plans.
but....woodyatt wasnt going to cut it here.
AW
From the sounds of things, Woodyatt didn't work on parts of his game that the coaching staff asked him to work on since the last training camp, or at least not hard enough. If that is the case, then he probably doesn't belong in the WHL.
I like what Bell brings to the team, but I am not crazy about the prospect of possibly losing as many as 3 of our defensemen next season. With Kuemper, Mappin, Coetzee, Archer and Ferguson still on the roster, it seems unlikely that Bell will be here next year.
I haven't seen enough of Barak to form an opinion on him yet. He did show that he has a heavy shot in the Black and White game though.
Good Luck with Deagle and Barak, Section N its funny how your opinion changes based on one comment.
Andrew- you created a stir a last year by putting a post about woodyatt last year, pretty unfair to criticize a 16 yr old kid who was doing as he was told
Nothing has changed with my opinion. I have accepted his release based on what I have read on a few blogs, and what I have heard from some people. Woodyatt clearly outperformed Deagle in training camp, that much was obvious. If he hasn't done what was asked by the coaches over the summer, then his release actually makes sense--you can't have guys like that on your team.
Anon:
I did not cause a stir. This is what I wrote:
----------------
16 year old D Kevin Woodyatt has been re-assigned to his midget team in Arizona. Woodyatt HAD been playing for the AAA Midget Optimist Rebels under Trevor Keeper, and had been playing pretty well. He played Bantam last season in Wilcox, SK. (Notre Dame) He nearly made the Rebels out of training camp, and a number of parties agreed to his playing his midget hockey here in Red Deer, close to the parent club.
This situation did pay off for the Rebels already this season...in addition to being able to keep tabs on their player, he was a convinient call-up for the U.S. road trip just gone by.
The issue that some people in the hockey community had....was that the AAA Midget squad is NOT a "farm club" for the Rebels, and Woodyatt's roster spot was taking a spot away from a local player. I know a number of people who were pretty fired up about it....and there were at least a couple of letters to the editor published in the paper.
I suppose I can understand both parts of this argument, and to be honest....I really don't have an opinion on it. Woodyatt though, IS headed back to Arizona....So the question now, is did the Rebels think it was the right move for his development, or did they have to bow to public and hockey circle pressure? I'm not sure. What are your thoughts?
-----------
I had no opinion on the matter. I did not blast Woodyatt or the circumstances.......merely stated the facts of the situation.
If you look through this blog you wont find me bashing any teenage hockey player that is still in the "amateur" ranks.
please tell me how i criticized and "Wasn't fair"
The fact that you opened it up on your blog to allow grown adults to hammer a kid who did not create the situation. You let it go on for days as it probably was the most visitors you've ever had to this website. The thoughts that were on the page had nothing to do with the rebels but were centered around the kid which wasn't the point of your posting?
SectionN glad you don't decide who plays in the league, as you seem to think you are the ultimate source about hockey in this town on merely blogs and they have little impact on things.
Are you sure the comments last year were Walker's fault? Maybe it was an ISP's fault for providing the commenter with Internet, or perhaps the person who sold them their computer? It is an open forum, where people are free to express their opinions, whether you or Walker necessarily agree with them.
And I am with you, I too am glad that I don't decide who plays in the WHL--sounds way too much like hard work. I am content to just provide the odd commentary on what I see and hear, getting the odd one right.
Its an open forum to be sure but the point is that these are 15-20 yr old kids who've made it farther in this sport than most of the people who feel the need to criticize them. SectionN you love to pick on Morin in other places lets put you out there with him or go toe to toe with him and see how it goes. These are kids not professionals keep things in a reasonable perspective. This league is a business for the owners and coaches but not the players as they try the best they can. get a life and stop taking cheap shots.
Saying it was my fault is laughable.
Again, I never said anything bad about the kid. The Rebels reassigned him at the time, and people wrote their opinion.
I agree. for 15-20 year old kids, this is not their profession. (yet) and you won't find any cheap shots from me on this blog.
The Woodyatt saga came with some layers though, and that was fact whether I typed it or not.
This blog has been around for just over a year, and the most visitors it has ever had was during this years WHL bantam draft, anf throughout this years training camp. Anyways. fans are always free to have their opinions on this page. That is all I will say
These "kids" as you call them are playing in a highly competitive league that is a development league for the NHL. Fans, including myself pay to enjoy watching hockey played at a high level, and correct or not, it is only human nature to criticize when a 20 year old "kid" is the root cause of at least 2 goals against every night. If you are truly familiar with my posts, then you will also know that the amount of praise I give the players is more than tenfold.
SectionN maybe you should be criticized for doing a bad job at burger king or Mcdonalds, as far as going to the NHL most of the players will never a get a sniff, just because Burger King said you were good enough to cook doesn't mean you are on the path to be the manager or CEO if you catch my drift. I understand you pay to watch the games but nobody is entitled speak their mind just because they have a ticket in hand, these are kids and its people like you that ruin it for them. Let the kids play, you had your chance.
Some would argue that some of these kids' chances are actually being ruined by hundreds of goals being scored against their team by one of their teammates defensive assignments every season. If comments on a blog (by someone who is as much of a nobody as you make me out to be) is actually ruining their chances, they probably aren't cut out for this level of hockey, and should strongly consider going back to Junior B.
Andrew- It isn't laughable because again you seemed to know what you were inviting when you posted that, obviously you made no derogatory comments it was the fact that you opened this blog up to the comments afterwards, the kid was gone and was kind of pointless to go that route.
He is part of the team for a reason and maybe the reasons are not all on the ice. Its not that your comments maybe discouraging the players its that this the internet and this there for people to read and think you might be knowledgable. Again lets put you on the ice with some these "kids" you pick on.
This will be the final comment on this thread.
The Rebels, a long time ago, made a transaction. It was posted. There was a sizeable controversey in the Red Deer hockey community, one that made life very difficult for RD Minor Hockey at the time.
We delved into that topic on the show, and as you read, briefly on this blog..because that's what we do..take a look at the stories affecting the local sports scene.
I did not "Invite" pot shots at Woodyatt, I was merely looking at the facts of the issue..."anonymous"
