Coetzee to Detroit

Rebels forward Willie Coetzee, passed over in last months NHL Entry Draft, will still be headed to a big-league training camp this fall.

Coetzee has accepted an invite to the Detroit Red Wings camp, where he will join linemate Landon Ferraro (Detroit's 2nd round pick, 32nd overall)

Coetzee, heading into his 19 year-old season, scored 18 goals and 42 points last year in his rookie campaign, quickly becoming a fan favorite in the process.

This coming fall, he'll likely play on the top line alongside Ferraro once again, and could be destined for a 60-70 point season.

From earlier this week: The Calgary Hitmen have grabbed 20 year-old forward Cody Gross off waivers from the Rebels.

Gross scored 10 goals and added 10 assists in Red Deer last season.

This leaves the Rebs with four 1989-born players on the roster, Cullen Morin, Nathan Green, Jordie Deagle, and Cody Esposito.

-Former Rebel Boyd Gordon has re-signed with the Washington Capitals. It's a one year deal worth $761,000.

The 25 year-old, former first round pick (2002) scored five goals and 14 points in 63 games last season

Man that's good news. Willie worked hard the past season. He deserves it. Good luck to him and all the boys going to camps!
