Well, that didn't take too long.
In a matter of hours, it's been confirmed that Brent Sutter will step down as head coach of the New Jersey Devils today.

I talked with Brent early this morning, and he said he'd be in contact with New Jersey, with an official announcement coming this afternoon.
It will be interesting to see if he makes any sort of commitment to a plan for next season...where does he go, what does he do? As started below, I'd like to beleive a full time President - General Manager post in Red Deer tops the priority list.
Local baseball tonight:
Sunburst League - RD Riggers vs RD Stags - 7:30 p.m. -(Great Chief)
Parkland League - RD Razorbacks @ Eckville Expos - 7 p.m.

Hi Andrew. How is this for a conspiracy theory???
Brent has a verbal agreement in place to coach Team Canada at the 2010 Olympics. That job would be alot easier to do if he is not attached to an NHL team. He can scout players until it is time to name the team. My theory is that was part of his decision to leave NJ (along with the family angle). That is why he is leaving the Rebels in the hands of Jesse and the Flames are not asking NJ permission to talk to him. He coaches Team Canada, sits out the rest of the year and lets his NJ contract expire, then goes and signs with the Flames for the following season. Darryl fills in for this year until Brent is free to be hired with no complication about him being under contract to NJ.
Looks about right, but Darryl may not be the GM by the time the 2010-2011 season rolls around.
